Rothamsted Research is embarking on an exciting new chapter as we develop our Integrated Farm Platform (IFP.) This is a bold initiative joining world‑leading farm research, cutting‑edge phenotyping, and pioneering GE/GM science.
Are you ready to be right at the heart of this transformation?
Can you help build the data foundations that make breakthrough science possible?
What you’ll do
- Champion high‑quality farm operations data using the FarmOS Field Information Management System to check, refine and enter key records including cultivations and drilling to pesticide use, fertiliser applications and harvest data.
- Keep FarmOS running smoothly by managing user accounts and maintaining up‑to‑date reference lists (pesticides, varieties, machinery) while championing strong quality‑assurance practices.
- Spot gaps, escalate missing data, record protocol deviations, organise the SharePoint library for field trial files, and produce vital operational and harvest reports.
- Work closely with farm teams, researchers and support staff to ensure timely, accurate data capture.
- Help onboard new colleagues; and share ideas to improve FarmOS processes.
- Collaborate with Research Data Systems teams to manage and mobilise farm datasets — including valuable historic management and soil survey data.
What we’re looking for
- A sharp eye for detail and strong data management skills — from collection and data integrity to QC/QA, transformation and reporting.
- Experience working with records management software.
- Technical or scientific education to NVQ Level 3 or AS/A‑Level minimum; Band D applicants will typically bring a degree or equivalent experience.
- A full UK manual driving licence, as you’ll be working across multiple sites.
- (For Band D, and desirable for Band C) experience with Excel/Sheets, scripting (Python/R), GIS or mapping tools, and/or knowledge of farm operations or field trials.
What we’re like to work with
Do you want to join a collaborative, mission‑driven community working with globally significant research assets?
Do you want to be part of a friendly, supportive team that values integrity, curiosity and continuous improvement?
Do you want to contribute directly to impactful, future‑focused agricultural science, helping shape how sustainable farming evolves for generations to come?
If so, take the next step and apply today!
