The Head of Project Accounting role is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting for our research projects. This includes ensures timely and accurate claim management and final expenditure reporting to our funders and ensuring the institute is making optimal use of project funds. The role will also report on and produce supporting metrics for our grant activity and overhead recovery performance. The role will also support wider financial reporting of the finance department by accurately capturing the financial activities of research projects within our management accounts, statutory accounts and forecasting activities.
The post is supported in these requirements by a team of four business partners servicing each of our science areas and major strategic programmes and an assistant management accountant. The role will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance. The post will also work closely with non finance staff such as science area leads, scientists, grant support and legal colleagues with a view to maximising funding opportunities that optimise financial contribution to the Institute.
The successful candidate will have a strong customer service ethos and superb interpersonal, management and negotiation skills. Some experience in the research grant field would be hugely desirable.
This is a pivotal time to be joining the Institute as it seeks to really drive forward its research grant activity and this post will be key in ensuring that this is done in a financially sustainable manner and the institute is able to monitor and report on its performance. You will be joining a friendly and committed Finance, Procurement and Assurance team of 15 who are striving to improve internal processes and help drive the transformation of the Institute and its understanding of its financial performance.
