Rothamsted Research seeks to recruit a Scientific Technician with skills in microbial engineering.
The successful applicant will work on a recently funded project under the Transformative Technologies remit of UKRI.
The successful candidate will provide superior technical support in a synthetic biology project that aims to exploit Cas12a for scarless conjugation-based in vivo DNA assembly.
The successful candidate will have the following essential skills:
- A Degree in Biology or Chemistry
- A Level Biology or Chemistry or equivalent NVQ (Level 3+) qualification
- Previous employment in a biological/microbiology laboratory environment
- Experience in preparation of buffers, media or solutions with precise chemical composition and pH
- Previous experience working to Standard Operating Procedures or defined protocols
- Familiarity with basic statistical data/data analysis techniques
- Awareness of technical support role and provision of activities to support effective laboratory management.
You will also have:
- A thorough understanding of microbial genetics, particularly for bacterial conjugation and recombination
- Have a range of applicable practical skills including molecular cloning, Gibson assembly, Golden Gate assembly, CRISPRs or recombineering.
- Have a degree in biology or chemistry alongside previous practical laboratory experience working with microorganisms.
- As well as superior technical skills, candidates should demonstrate excellent organisational and record keeping skills in their application.
You will be expected to have a range of duties to support genomic engineering and cutting edge synthetic biology techniques.
You will work with other lab members including researchers who are highly recognised in the field, to write and execute new experimental protocols.
The role will be based within the Molecular Discovery Group within the Plant Sciences and the Bioeconomy strategic area and will be located at our Harpenden campus.
The role is a fixed term full time contract for 16 months, with a start date in October 2024. The salary is in the range of £24,225 - £26,573 per annum dependent on experience.
