Applications are invited for the position of Linux Systems Administrator, part of the IT Services Team offering the opportunity
to utilise Linux skills in a bespoke, data driven environment, administering state of the art infrastructure.
The successful candidate will lead the effective operation and continuous planning and development of the Linux/HPC technical infrastructure (CentOS, Rocky and Ubuntu) and provide technical support for the advanced VMWare environment, the data storage environment and related IT infrastructure to ensure the relevant needs of the Institute are anticipated and met to support our strategic programmes and various research projects.
Being part of the larger IT support team, the role requires a broad knowledge of IT infrastructure in order to help solve complex problems.
You will work directly with data scientists and software developers and support a range of software and data service needs. These are supported using tools and applications such as Docker, SaltStack, Conda, EasyBuild, Slurm and Grafana.
You will also support users by developing Linux and HPC training courses/workshops and provide technical and supporting documentation to promote the HPC infrastructure across the business.
The ability to work under pressure and maintain project timescales, as well as the willingness to work on several projects simultaneously is essential, together with the ability to manage your workload, set realistic user expectations and delivery timescales to meet scientific research requirements for the Institute.
This is a full-time, initially 3 year fixed term position with a salary in the range of £37,890 - £41,438 per annum. This role can be based at either our Harpenden or Devon (Okehampton) sites. Rothamsted operates a homeworking policy, whereby homeworking arrangements can be considered.
