Overview Of Role

We have an exciting new opportunity for a  Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in soil science/agronomy to work on a two year project funded as part of the new Agritech Cornwall initiative.

Based at Rothamsted Research's North Wyke research station in Devon, the successful applicant will work closely with an industry partner, CleanGrow UK Ltd, to develop a rapid phosphorus soil testing kit, utilising phosphate ion selective electrode technologies developed by CleanGrow UK Ltd.

The project will involve carrying out numerous soil tests, such as Olsen P tests and water extractable phosphate, on soils collected from farms across Cornwall. Pot experiments in controlled environment facilities will also be carried out, incorporating grass and wheat. Data collected will be used to develop soil-specific guidelines for phosphorus fertiliser, using measurements obtained using the method developed during the project. The final product will be a novel rapid soil phosphorus testing kit which will enable agronomists and land managers to make accurate recommendations for the rates at which to apply phosphorus fertilisers for different crops and in different soils.

The successful candidate will have an up-to-date knowledge and specialist understanding in the field with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, material of a specialist or highly technical nature.
A UK driving licence is required for this role along with the ability to work outside of core hours sometimes and travel away overnight from North Wyke as required.
Interviews will be held 6 February 2018.
