Rothamsted Research is a world-leading, non-profit research centre that focuses on strategic agricultural science to the benefit of farmers and society worldwide. Through this call, we are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable environmental scientist with experience on the use of Remote Sensing (RS) and spatially explicit process-based models.
In agricultural systems, RS represents the key to, on the one hand, understanding the spatial and temporal variation of their primary production, and, on the other, developing and implementing key indices linked to other ecosystem services. Through this role and in collaboration with the RS expert for Rothamsted Research North Wyke you will address three key outputs. First, and given the commitment of UK policy to reach C neutrality, you will gain understanding of the spatial and temporal variation of key forage quality traits directly linked to livestock emissions. Second, you will work in understanding the spatial and temporal variation of RS derived ecosystem services across the UK. Third, you will develop open-source tools for decision managers and policy makers to enable them to use the developed knowledge.
The position will involve liaising regularly with academic partners and stakeholders to ensure coherency with the outputs generated. The work will involve experimental activities in outdoor conditions, manipulating the collected samples under laboratory conditions, and desk-based work to process the datasets. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in two or more of the Desirable experience skills listed in the Person Specification section below. As part of the selection process, short-listed candidates will require to take a test involving the desirable experience skills and will also deliver a presentation during their interview showing their essential skills.
Please complete the application in full and attach CV, including a full list of publications and ensure that you provide evidence of your experience in your application form, giving length of experience, examples and dates as required.
This vacancy closes on 31 March 2023, and interviews will follow after.
