An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Technician to join the Genomics and Molecular Breeding Section at Rothamsted Research. The successful applicant will contribute to our multidisciplinary willow genetic improvement programme, with particular focus on tree genomics and biotechnology.
The post will be mainly laboratory-based, providing the opportunity to work in a well-equipped genomics laboratory with state-of-the-art sequencing capabilities. Specific duties will include plant sampling, nucleic acid extraction and the construction of NGS libraries for de novo genome sequencing and high-throughput genotyping. The post will also work alongside specialist scientists in plant tissue culture to help develop protocols for rapid multiplication of elite willow varieties. Some data analysis and field work will also be required.
Although specialist training will be provided, the successful candidate will have previous experience working in a molecular biology laboratory, with experience of handling plant samples a distinct advantage. Good computing skills and familiarity with basic bioinformatics tools will also be required.
Located at our Harpenden site, this is a full-time fixed term appointment to 31st March 2025 (in the first instance) offering a salary in the range for grade C - £ £24,225-26,573 per annum.
