Overview Of Role
The Rothamsted Research Agronomy Team are moving forward with their successful willow energy crop breeding programme based at our Harpenden site. Currently there are 5 willow varieties on the  market, all identified by the Roth prefix. To accelerate new variety development and boost the drive to Net Zero they are seeking a skilled person to join the team developing Genomic Selection in willow.
 
The specific role is to manage the establishment and subsequent phenotyping of 5 sites growing a willow Training PopulationTraining in crop specific protocols is available where required. The sites are spread across the UK to encompass diverse environments. Travel including overnight stays will be necessary.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for all phenotyping on two sites and for liaison and data management at the other three. They will then collate records and data for reporting purposes.  There will be opportunities to interact with all sectors of the energy crop industry at Demonstrator events organised by a parallel project. 
 
We are looking for someone with strong biological background and some experience of field experiments. A degree in a biological science or agriculture or similar is essential, a higher degree desirable. Some agricultural experience would also be desirable. Excellent record keeping, organisational skills and data management are also essential. The ability to interact confidently with a wide range of stakeholders including academics and industry is needed. The flexibility and desire to travel regularly within the UK, including a full driving licence, is essential. 
 
This is a full-time fixed term appointment to 31/03/2025 with a salary in the range of £29,842 - £32,315 per annum.
