The Rothamsted Research Agronomy Team are looking for an additional Agronomist to join the busy Long Term Experiments and Agronomy Section. The team run multiple projects in a wide range of crop types. This position is to add to the work on energy crops for which the team have a long standing reputation for agronomic research and plant breeding in willow.
This specific role is to manage the establishment and subsequent management of a network of 8 energy crop (willow, miscanthus, switch grass, reed canary grass, short rotation forestry etc.) demonstration sites spread across the UK. Post establishment the successful candidate will be engaged in measuring the performance of the crops. Training is available where required.
Reflecting the amount of travel required to achieve this there is the possibility to be home based within the UK. Regular and frequent attendance at the Rothamsted Research Harpenden site will be essential to ensure strong interaction with colleagues. There will be ample opportunities to interact with all sectors of the bio-energy industry at the demonstrator sites, including formal open events.
The ideal candidate will have strong agricultural experience and the confidence to deal with a wide range of stakeholders including academics and industry. A degree in agriculture or similar is essential together with the flexibility and desire to travel regularly within the UK, including a full driving licence.
This is a full-time, fixed term contract to 31/03/2025 with a salary in the range of £29,842-32,315 per annum.
