Overview Of Role

Rothamsted Research are recruiting a post-doctoral Research Scientist is available in the Soil Physics group .  The post holder will investigate the role of gas diffusivity in the reduced pore space of compacted soils in relation to the accumulation of hormone ethylene in the root tissues of various wheat lines. The post holder will carry out the laboratory experiments of comparing the development of ethylene-insensitive wheat lines and control lines under various level of abiotic stresses, and therefore test a hypothesis that the increased level of ethylene can hamper the growth of wheat roots.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in one of soil physics/science, gas physics/chemistry, and plant/wheat biology and a good undergraduate degree in related STEM sectors; strong track record of publications in reputable journals is essential. Knowledge of statistical analysis and experience of gas diffusion measurements are also highly desirable.
