Overview Of Role

A Senior Scientific Specialist is required to undertake metabolomic data analysis, metabolite characterisation and structural annotation. The post holder will join the Metabolomics Facility at Rothamsted Research, which currently sits within the Molecular Discovery Group of the Computational and Analytical Sciences Department. The facility supports a wide range of plant science projects for internal and external customers, across a wide range of plant species and biological areas. The facility was established in 2003 and undertakes large scale metabolite analysis using a multiple spectroscopic techniques. The unit is staffed by proficient spectroscopists and technicians and the post holder will join the team to work with analytical data as it moves through the pipeline. This exciting post brings together analytical spectroscopy, chemometrics and structural elucidation via compound isolation to deliver maximum value and biological insight from our analyses.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD in chemistry, chemical sciences or a closely related subject and will be very proficient in NMR and mass spectrometry data evaluation, analysis and annotation. They should also have demonstrable experience of chemometrics techniques and basic statistics for the analysis of large scale datasets. Experience of structural elucidation of unknown molecules is desirable as is evidence of quantitative analysis and publication of such data according to chemical society standards. The post holder will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver a metabolomics and metabolite profiling service. They will take a leading role in the analysis of data arising from the facility and will interact with customers and collaborators. With their line manager they will seek and develop new opportunities and funding to grow the capabilities of the facility. Opportunities for training in facility management aspects may also be available for the right candidate to enable continued development of both the facility and the individual.

This is a full-time 2 year fixed-term contract with a salary in the range  of  £37,890 - £41,438 p.a.

Given current funding timescales and the current covid-19 pandemic, shortlisting of candidates who are able to commence work at Rothamsted by 1st August 2020 will be prioritised.
