Overview Of Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher (Functional Genomics Specialist) to join our team whose primary aim is to improve our understanding of resistant and susceptible responses involving interactions between non-biotrophic fungal pathogens and their hosts cereal crops.

The post-holder will assist in delivering scientific objectives of the WP2.2 ‘Durable resistance to pathogens and pests’ of the BBSRC funded cross-institute strategic programme ‘Designing Future Wheat’. This will be done through application of the functional genomics tools such as VIGS, VOX, HIGS and TILLING that allow rapid and relatively inexpensive analysis of gene function in wheat and / or the interacting fungal pathogens and are well established at Rothamsted Research.

An ideal candidate will have a PhD in in Plant Biotechnology, Plant Genetics, Molecular Plant Pathology, Plant Virology, or similar discipline and be highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative as well as have excellent knowledge of functional genomics techniques, and proven skills and experience in Molecular Plant Pathology (fungal pathogens) and experience working with wheat and/or other cereal crops. In addition to conducting innovative research of an international quality, the post-holder will be expected to assist with the preparation of grant applications, reports to funders, research manuscripts and review articles; to be involved in guidance and development of students and visiting workers in the group; as well as to actively interact with collaborators and participate in public engagement events.

This post is currently funded until 31 March 2022 with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months and has a starting salary within the range of £29,842 to £32,315 per annum depending on profile and experience.
