The post-holder will be involved in the cloning and characterisation of secondary metabolite biosynthesis genes, including the reconstruction of plant pathways in microbial systems.

The successful candidate will be proficient in practical molecular biology including gene cloning, construct design, and heterologous expression in microbial systems. Post-doctoral experience in the molecular biology of oxidative secondary metabolism in plants and expression of plant genes in yeast is essential, as is expertise in the characterisation of such metabolic enzymes at the biochemical level. This project forms part of the larger Institute Strategic Programme (ISP) “Tailoring Plant Metabolism” at Rothamsted which aims to understand plant metabolism and carbon flux and incorporate this knowledge into the sustainable production of  high value compounds. The post-holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with other researchers in this ISP including those collecting and analysing high-throughput data from the Rothamsted plant multi-omics platforms.
