Overview Of Role

Rothamsted Research is looking to increase its impact through business engagement regionally, nationally and internationally. To support this, we are seeking an Innovation and Industry Grant Development Manager who will engage with, and support, staff across all departments and grades to help secure funding for innovation and commercialisation through:

  • Developing and maintaining our current relationships with industry,
  • Building new collaborations that lead to joint projects
  • Developing, submitting and subsequently supporting
    • knowledge exchange projects
    • applications for funding for joint projects with industry (e.g. Innovate, BBSRC IPA and LINK schemes, ISCF, KTP)
    • projects fully paid for by industry, including collaborative R&D, contract research and consultancy services
    • early-stage ideas in our pipeline (e.g. Follow on Fund).
  • Supporting initiatives that result in greater use of our unique scientific resources.

A proactive, enthusiastic approach, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are essential, and the post-holder should have the experience and ability to provide expert editorial and strategic advice to enable staff to secure increased research funding in business and innovation. The post holder must have a prior track record in supporting successful business-led bids to completion and sufficient proven ability in providing financial support for the development of accurate costings. Prior familiarity with the use of ERP Unit4 (Business World) will be considered beneficial. 

Rothamsted Research is the world’s longest running agricultural research institute, globally recognised for excellent science and lasting benefits to agriculture and farming practices over more than 170 years. Our founders were among the scientific innovators of modern agriculture. Examples of major impacts arising from our research include inorganic fertilisers, pyrethroid insecticides and experimental statistics (Fischer’s statistical tests). 

The post-holder will be part of a Research Grant Development Team and will be located on either the Harpenden or North Wyke sites. They will report to the Senior Research Grants Manager and through them the Head of the Research and Innovation Grants Office. Interviews are expected to take place on 21st and 22nd December.
 
The post is a full time post on a fixed term contract initially for 2 years, with potential for extension. The salary for the post ranges between £37,890 and £41,438 per annum.
