Overview Of Role


Rothamsted Research (www.rothamsted.ac.uk) seeks energetic and creative individuals with excellent records in science and/or innovation to provide inspirational high-level leadership to help develop and deliver the transformative approaches needed to address the challenges currently facing farming and food production.  We are open to any specific areas of expertise, although relevant experience in one or more of the following topics would be considered beneficial:

  • Net zero and climate-resilient farming systems
  • Protecting crops and protecting and improving the environment
  • Optimising aboveground and belowground productivity
  • Future traits for future agriculture
  • Data-driven biosciences for agriculture

Rothamsted Research is at an exciting phase of its tremendous history of advancing scientific knowledge and providing solutions with global impact for agriculture. It is pursuing a new strategy in science and innovation, through transforming arable and grassland-livestock agricultural systems to deliver affordable healthy and nutritious food, whilst also protecting the environment.

In addition to its unique capabilities, such as the long-term experiments, insect survey and highly instrumented farm platform and its excellent science in soils, crop improvement, agroecology, agronomy, crop protection, chemical ecology, genomics, metabolism, statistics, bioinformatics and modelling, Rothamsted Research has developed innovation platforms in collaboration with private and public partners, such as short leaps with farmers and SMEs and the entrepreneur support programme SHAKE Climate Change. It is also known for its work on GM and gene editing in crops and is currently embarking on an exciting digital initiative. 

We seek experienced national and international individuals with a track record of strategic leadership in the relevant areas of research  to join us in these endeavours.
