Statistical Genomics Scientist

Salary Details:
£46,232 -£51,580 per annum
Work Area:
Closing Date:

Overview Of Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Statistical Genomics Scientist at Rothamsted Research to apply advanced thinking and to develop statistical genetics and genomics methodologies or introduce related approaches from AI and machine learning to create innovative approaches to multi-omic data analysis.

New technologies now make it affordable to generate massive amounts of molecular data from whole genome studies including data on genetic variation, on gene expression, the proteome, metabolome and whole genomic sequence. In all our research portfolios we use these data to discover new gene-trait associations and dissect the basis of genetics x environmental x management (GxExM) interactions.

We now want to make a step change in our conceptual thinking and apply advanced quantitative statistical genetic and genomic approaches, which could include machine learning,to a wider range of agricultural problems in sustainable agriculture, with an emphasis on helping to bridge the genotype to phenotype gap for improved prediction of crop performance and on understanding adaptation in wild pest populations.

We anticipate that the successful applicant will be highly conversant with a range of genetic and genomic analysis methodologies, including the analysis of linkage and association genetics (GWAS), population genetics, gene-environment interactions, and genetics of gene and metabolite expression (eQT/mQTL analysis), ideally applied in an agricultural research environment. Other relevant areas of research experience could include inference of gene regulatory networks and advanced analytical methods applied to multi-omic and metagenome and meta-transcriptome datasets. Applicants with abilities to develop their own methodologies as well as apply bespoke methods will be particularly well received.

The successful applicant will interact closely with relevant teams at RRes including genetics and genomics researchers, crop modellers, statisticians, bioinformaticians and computational systems biologists.

Rothamsted Research values its commitment to equality and diversity in its workforce and we particularly encourage applications from women, disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, as these groups are currently under-represented within the organisation.

This is a full-time tenure-track appointment initially for 4 years offering a salary in the range of £46,232 to £51,580 per annum.
