Overview Of Role
We are seeking an Assistant Health, Safety and Biosafety Advisor to join our Health, Safety and Biosafety Team who will provide expertise and advice on matters relating to Health, Safety, Biosafety & Biosecurity.

This position will implement a comprehensive health, safety and biosafety program to support scientific research, giving guidance as appropriate and also monitoring compliance. The position will have responsibility for assessing and mitigating risks pertaining to infectious agents and biological toxins; training laboratory personnel in safety principles; acting as secretary and advisor to the Biosafety Committee and undertaking a programme of inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and best practice. The Assistant Health, Safety and Biosafety Advisor may also be required to liaise with various governing authorities, acting as the point of contact and host.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a biological science subject
  • A scientific research background, preferably in a biological subject such as microbiology, infectious disease or molecular biology
  • Knowledge of containment standards and engineering 
  • Knowledge in Biological Safety principles and practises
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and good interpersonal skills.
  • A good working knowledge of Health and Safety, and experience of working in regulatory framework is desirable
  • Ability to take clear, concise and accurate minutes of meetings (and follow up on action points as appropriate)
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential or sensitive information

The role is full time, with a renewable fixed term of 3 years, offering a salary in the range of £29,842 - £32,315 per annum.
