Overview Of Role

The Department of Plant Sciences seek to employ a Scientific Technician to join the oilseed group within the “Tailoring Plant Metabolism” Institute Strategic Programme to work on mechanisms regulating oil yield in Camelina.  The post-holder will assist a team of researchers to understand fundamental aspects of engineering novel products in oilseeds. The post-holder will be responsible for describing a baseline for Camelina seed development. They will be responsible for growing Camelina plants, analyzing seed traits including fatty acid profiles, and oil content. They will also prepare high quality RNA from various seed tissues at specific developmental time-points for RNA-seq and be involved in identifying expressions patterns of various seed promoters.

The post-holder will have a degree in biological sciences or a related discipline and experience in growing plant, pollinations, seed development. Experience in basic molecular techniques is desirable. Dexterity and the motivation to work to a high standard of accuracy is prerequisite. The successful candidate is expected to be an active participant within the wider research group.

The position will be at our Harpenden site with a full time 3 year fixed-term contract in the first instance with a starting salary in the range of £24,225-£26,573 per annum
